CHARITIES

The post which is delivered to our house quite often has appeals to various charities but however deserving these are, we have to be selective in the ones we feel able to support.

The amount of post asking for charitable donations that is received  by St. Francis Xavier's Presbytery far exceeds our personal appeals.

Again, all these charities are very worthwhile and it would be very satisfying to be able to support them all but in 1999 with the help of a small group of parishioners, it was decided to support ten charities.  But with ever recurring sudden catastrophes over and above these ten, it was decided in 2000 to reduce the number to six.  This would include both local needs and those further afield.  Two  CAFOD  collections are also made in addition to the six charities identified for the year.

The Charity Year runs from September to August .
